Mat started his career as an apprentice sign writer. He was taught in the traditional method, learning the essential skills of colour theory, sign design, layout, tinting and mixing paints and brushwork.

After travelling and working overseas Mat returned to Melbourne and for the next ten years worked for three painting businesses to broaden his knowledge and experience in all aspects of painting. Mat then decided it was time to establish his own business and in 2006 Mat White Painting was born. 

Mat has a simple philosophy to business. He believes that honesty, punctuality, trust and listening are the cornerstones to successful small business and he consistently applies these core values to his work.

Mat is also passionate about his art. He is a self-taught artist and over the years has developed his own unique style. Using techniques and knowledge of paints learnt during his career. 

Mat has had two solo exhibitions and exhibited in several group shows.
